Create your own Zoom app
You need this only if the build you installed has no bundled Zoom app (Settings shows Setup required), or if you prefer to authorize an app that lives in your own Zoom account. It is free, takes about five minutes, and needs no review by Zoom because only you use the app.
1. Find your redirect URL
Open the extension’s Settings → Advanced: use your own Zoom app. Copy the value in Redirect URL to register in your Zoom app. For official builds it is always:
https://begicpcedapmnhpnbndkbbcifhbjamob.chromiumapp.org/
2. Create the app
- Sign in at marketplace.zoom.us with your Zoom account.
- Click Develop → Build App.
- Choose General App (user-managed OAuth). Name it anything, for example
My Summarchive. - Under App Credentials, pick User-managed as the management type. When asked how to authenticate, keep the default Client secret. The extension never uses the regular client ID or its secret, so the “Public key / JWKS” option is irrelevant.
- On the same page, toggle Use Public Client OAuth on. Zoom generates an extra Public Client ID that needs no secret. Copy that one, not the regular Client ID.
- Under OAuth Redirect URL, paste the redirect URL from step 1. Add the same URL to the OAuth allow list.
3. Add scopes
In Scopes → Add Scopes, search for and add:
| Scope | Why |
|---|---|
user:read:user |
Show which account is connected and its plan type |
meeting:read:list_summaries |
List your meeting summaries (GET /users/{userId}/meeting_summaries) |
meeting:read:summary |
Read each summary (GET /meetings/{meetingUUID}/meeting_summary) |
Scope names in the Zoom picker occasionally change. If one is missing, search for “summary” and pick the user-level (non-admin) variants.
4. Paste the client ID
Back in the extension’s Settings → Advanced, paste the Public Client ID and click Save, then Connect Zoom account. Zoom shows a consent screen listing the scopes above. Approve it and you are done.
What gets exported, and what does not
Zoom has two separate AI note systems. Only the first one is reachable through the API.
| Zoom feature | Where you see it | Exported? |
|---|---|---|
| Meeting Summary (started during a meeting you host, arrives by email as “Meeting summary for …”) | zoom.us → left sidebar Meeting Summaries | Yes |
My Notes (personal AI note taker, mynotes.zoom.us) |
My Notes panel / app | No public API |
| Transcripts and cloud recordings | Recordings page | Out of scope |
If you only see My Notes, turn on Settings → AI Companion → Meeting Summary with AI Companion (and “Automatically start … for all meetings I host”). The Meeting summary option then appears in the in-meeting AI panel.
Requirements on the Zoom side
- The summaries API serves Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise accounts with Meeting summary enabled. Basic (free) accounts get a few summaries per month in the portal, but Zoom’s API answers “Only available for Paid account” for them.
- Only summaries of meetings you hosted are returned. Summaries shared with you by other hosts are not accessible via user-level scopes.
- End-to-end-encrypted meetings never have summaries.
- Summaries older than your account’s retention window have already been deleted by Zoom and cannot be recovered by any tool.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
Invalid access token, does not contain scopes:[…] (code 4711) |
Add the missing scope in the Zoom app, then Disconnect and Connect again. |
| Zoom shows “Invalid redirect: …” | The redirect URL in the Zoom app must match the one in Settings exactly, including the trailing slash. |
403 on every summary |
Your plan or admin settings do not include AI meeting summaries. |
| Nothing found | Widen the date range. Zoom deletes summaries after the retention window. |
